The Timberwolves are one of the most exciting teams in the NBA right now, and it has everything to do with a young core of point guards that includes a promising young big man.
They are loaded with talent, but they also have a new coach in Mickey Loomis who was a head coach at Marquette before moving to Minnesota.
Loomi was a longtime assistant for Karl-Anthony Towns, and he is expected to be the new coach for the Wolves in the summer of 2019.
The team is coming off a record-setting start, which included a second-straight win over the Orlando Magic.
But Minnesota also has a number of young, talented players on the roster, including a young point guard, a young center and a new big man, as well as a talented rookie point guard.
Here are some of the big storylines heading into next season.
The young point guards who will be playing a big role: It’s no secret that Kevin Garnett, Ricky Rubio and J.J. Barea have been a huge part of Minnesota’s success.
They’ve each played at a high level, and now that they are in a playoff spot, they’ll likely be in a lot of pressure.
The Timberwolves have four other players who could have huge impact next season: Ricky Rubio, J.T. Compher and Tyler Hansbrough.
Rubio and Hansbroug are both expected to sign with the Wolves this summer, and both could be starters in the rotation for the future.
Rubio is a three-time All-Star and a five-time NBA champion, while Hansbrugger is a two-time all-star, three- time All-Rookie and a two time NBA champion.
Comperman is a versatile defender who averaged 17.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season.
He’ll be a starter next season, and his offensive game will be the biggest asset for the Timberwolves.
Hansbridger was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
He was the MVP of the 2017 Summer Olympics, and a member of the All-NBA First Team.
He also won two NBA Championships, including the 2017 All-Defensive team.
He will be a big part of the offense for the Minnesota Timberwolves next season as well.
The new big men: There’s one player who will definitely be a key player for the new Timberwolves: Ricky Garcia.
He’s a versatile big man who can play small forward, shooting guard, power forward and power forward in the pick-and-roll, and also play power forward.
Garcia was one of several young players who helped lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a title last season and was also one of five players to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
He has experience playing at the NBA level and is coming into his own.
He is expected be the starter for the Minneapolis Timberwolves next year.
